Update on Roger Clemens

October
1

The Rocket was in Tampa but threw 49 pitches in the bullpen instead of a simulated game. The game will be tomorrow.

This makes sense as Clemens is scheduled to start Sunday. So throwing a “game” tomorrow puts him on his usual routine.

    GOOOO roger

I have high hopes for the Rocket. He knows this may be the last time he pitches, he’ll leave it all out there. I really don’t see him coming back next year, he just broke down too much. Any info Pete?

All you guys who kept arguing with me that ian kennedy is shut down and has his wedding and there is no way he is going on the post-season roster maybe now u will realize that the yanks have to take their best pitchers and he is certainly one of them. Learn the meaning of a pitcher being shut down without being placed on the dl. It means he is prolly pitching again at some point. Bullpen: Mo, Chamberlain, Hughes, Kennedy, Ohlendorf, Farnsy and Viz. I say every game: Hughes, Kennedy and/or ohlendorf in the sixth and seventh; Chamberlain in the eighth and Mo in the ninth. If there is back to back days with a starter only going five or six like Clemens and Moose, you can let viz or farnsy go one in early innings. But NEVER pitch Viz or farnsy in big situations in tie games. We have five reliable relief pitchers - we can prolly go the whole post season without playing farnsy or viz in close or late situations unless a game goes 12 plus innings and even then kennedy, hughes, ohlendorf and chamberlain can each pitch two as they r all starters so it should be no problem.

Dave I believe that he will not make the post season roster for the first round. I just dont see a place for him in the first round. But you can change your roster in every round so if we are lucky enough to make it to the ALCS I believe he will be on there based on performances first round.

  5. Sherri

Dave - Was that an “I told you so.” :) Sounds like they are wanting to use Kennedy (which I think is great), but I don’t think it would be until the second round. Of course, I’ll be the first one to admit it if I’m wrong!!!

  6. mike

heres a good story on Justin Chamberlian……. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB119076350740339270.html?mod=googlenews_wsj

  7. Sherri

I am hoping for great things for Clemens in the playoffs. He didn’t come back to New York for nothing.

  8. Jeff NJ

According to the NY Post, Bruney, Britton, Veras and Ohlendorf were told they weren’t going to be on the active roster. Although it was from George King, who is often wrong.

  9. Lanny

If Clemens is anything like he was against the Sox, he will be fine.

  10. mel

So that means Villone and Ramirez?

Villone I can live with, but Ramirez? AAAARRRGGGHHHHHHHHHH!

  11. Gayle

Jeff I think you misread what he wrote see below. It says they have NOT made the decision on Veras etc and told them to come back tot h e stadium whereas they told Bruney to go home

How far did Brian Bruney fall?

A year ago, he pitched in three of the four ALDS games. Yesterday, the Yankees told him to go home, opting to not include the right-handed reliever around like they did with Ross Ohlendorf, Chris Britton and Jose Veras.

    “I was shocked, Bruney said.

According to Ian Browne at mlb.com, Tony Massarotti from the Herald is reporting that Matsuzaka is the starter for game 2 of ALDS.

If that is true, Boston going with the 8 day series looks even more idiotic.

  13. Jeff NJ

Ah, ok thanks Gayle, I guess I did misread it. I was wondering why King was the only one reporting that. I guess in addition to shoddy reporting King needs to turn a phrase better too. Thanks for the clarification.

  14. MJL

    Dave -

I’ve been with you all along, that it’s still possible (and hopeful) we’ll see Kennedy again. It’s just that the words “shut down” usually have a connotation of not coming back at all, as we saw this year with Clay Bucholz and Erik Bedard.

  15. Gayle

hmm who was it that was talking about wanting Shelly Duncan to be the DH against Sabathia. on WFAN they just said that Torre said he is considering it very interesting to see how that turns out sure Pete will be all over it

  16. Jeff NJ

They’ll start Duncan Thursday. It’s vs. a lefty and Matsui could use the extra day. I think we may see Giambi at 1st, but I guess that’s the question.

WFAN is also reporting the Yankees will play late afternoon games on Friday and Sunday. No word on Monday when I have my tix :-)

  17. Andrea

Jeff: Russo said it’s his GUESS that the Yankees would play a late afternoon game on Friday, not official.

I *really* hope no Giambi at first, especially with Wang on the mound. It would be an awful move.

  18. Sherri

What about Mientkiewicz - will he be at 1st?

  19. MJL

Duncan will be the DH on Thursday…book it.

  20. MJL

Dougie has similar splits against lefties and righties so I would imagine you’ll see him starting every game. I don’t think anyone wants to see Giambi at first, even Joe.

  21. Sherri

MJL - Thanks. I definitely want Minky at 1B!!!! I’m also hoping for A-Rod to step up and have a big October.

  22. Yankees Chick

I also have high hopes for our dear Rocket. His passion certainly hasn’t faltered, so we know he will give it his all. He’s also great for rallying the team’s spirit!

  23. migames

    matsui will DH 1st game
    damon in LF
    and maybe Duncan at 1b

  24. Jeter's Future Wife

why don’t they keep Minky at 1st and DH Shelley on Thursday? Keep Giambi on the bench.

  25. Sherri

Yankees Chick - YES!!! TOUGH ALL DAY!!! IS IT THURSDAY YET?! This is going to be a LONG week!

  26. mel

I would keep Minky at 1st, DH Duncan, put JD in left, and give Matsui an extra day to rest that drained knee.

  27. Jeter's Future Wife

last blog was for the first game against CC

  28. Yankees Chick

is anyone else getting incredibly antsy for game 1 already?! and it’s only MONDAY?!?!
