francesa says he has to be convinced melkman can play CF. well, he ran a great route to that ball and picked it off the grass. i don’t think damon or most other CFs get to that ball. (andrew jones would have!)
He seems to have a lot better stuff than advertised but worse control than advertised. He’s kind of like Leiter in that transitional stage- after he was a really good pitcher but before he was a really bad pitcher.
If he doesn’t get a handle on the strike zone, he is useless to this team. I realize its early but, the guy can’t throw strikes and that makes it tough to use him.
He certainly can’t pitch out of the bullpen if he can’t locate. Its why I really hope they send him to AAA for a month so he can get accustomed to pitching in the States.
JMO but, it would be wrong to keep him on this roster if he continues to struggle with the strike zone. Too many good arms in the organization now to waste a roster spot on somebody who can’t help you.
They just got rid of Jared Wright because he couldn’t throw the ball over the plate and blew out the bullpen in every start. They can’t have another version of Wright.
He certainly has stuff and moxie. If this keeps up, AAA is the best place for him to find the strike zone.
jason, leiter’s a good comparison minus the good fastball al had when he was young. i like the fact he’s throwing 91 mph tonight and in the 70s with his off-speed stuff. he does have some wright similarities but he sure does strike some people out. and walks them, too. maybe a five or six-inning pitcher.
francesa sees himself as the tough critic of his favorite team. pretty soon he will announce with great fanfare that melky has proven he can play CF, something most yankee fans already know.
He has good stuff. No getting around that and his makeup on the mound is impressive. He just has to find a comfort zone with the american strike zone.
If he can, he will help the team. I just hope he isn’t a AAAA pitcher in the states. Would be a waste of a lot of money.

Thoughts and discussion on the 26-time World Champion Yankees.
Igawa keeps you on the edge of your seat doesn’t he? He’s like Satchel Paige: “I’ll walk a couple of guys and then strike everyone out.”
Melky!
And Kei is so strange. He walks everyone and k’s everyone.
that breaking ball is nasty when it’s in there
HAHA was that Cano in that commercial?
Igawa is the Japanese version of Jared Wright when it comes to the strike zone.
He is going to drive Joe nuts with this stuff. I could see some of his lines now: 5 innings, 125 pitches, 8 BB, 8 K’s. lol

Francesa ought to watch some games instead of pining for Bernie.
To continue to rail on what Melky did two years ago is flat out stupid.
The kid has been a CF his entire life until last year. He even played center in winter ball again this year.
Of course, that’s lost on Francesa since that would take some research to know that. You can’t just talk about it off the cuff, his usual style.

Its good to see his fastball gaining some pop.
